After 4 years with Saint Laurent, Hedi has announced that he will part ways with the major designer label as its creative and image director.
Francois-Henri Pinault, chairman and CEO of Kering (the company owners), added: “What Yves Saint Laurent has achieved over the past four years represents a unique chapter in the history of the house. I am very grateful to Hedi Slimane, and the whole Yves Saint Laurent team, for having set the path that the house has successfully embraced, and which will grant longevity to this legendary brand”.
Since taking over as creative director in 2012, then known as Yves Saint Laurent, Kering empowered him to take over the image of YSL. They renamed the house to Saint Laurent and move into more fashion based on youth culture classics, filling the stores with well-cut biker jackets, army parkas, little sparkly dresses, riffs on tuxedo suiting, hot pants, grunge lingerie slips and deluge of footwear, from 70’s platforms, rocker boots to Mary Janes.
He did get some criticism from his reclusiveness, lack of originality and very thin models, but Saint Laurent was a massive hit. In 2014 figures shown that he double revenues to $787 Million within 3 years.
Slimane leaves his mark behind with the designer label, he has made such an influence. We wish him all the luck with his new endeavours.
